An Adventure in Genealogy
In addition to stories about my ancestors, I share tips for conducting online family history research. Genealogy is a great pasttime, join me on my journey to uncover and document my ancestors lives.
Working
My great grandfather was a laborer, working all his life. He made the transition from rural farmer to city worker in 1913.
School
Have you looked at old high school yearbooks? Not just your own, but your parents or even grandparents. A few years ago I discovered the yearbooks from my grandparents’ high schools had been digitized and put online.
Character
My great Aunt Grace looked for the positive even when life was a challenge. Aunt Grace was a character with character.
Tragedy
I consider the tragedy of my 3rd great-grandmother, Mary Hebble 1812-1851, and the impact her illness and death had on her immediate family.
In the City
This story is about the garbage collectors in my father’s boyhood neighborhood during the mid-1930’s.
Favorite Name
Names can be interesting to me because they are unique, humorous, or have a special meaning. I highlight a few of my favorite interesting names.
Health
Finding genealogical records pertaining to the health of our ancestors is rare. Death certificates are the most common, but there is the occasional newspaper article.
Fashion
I wonder about fashion choices in old family photos. A favorite outfit, a reflection of the era, a fashion statement? Here are those I find charming, amusing or unique.
Transportation
My McCash 4th great grandparents used a form of transportation to transit the Ohio River that has intrigued me: flatboats.
Free
There is no shortage of free genealogy research materials to be found online, and offline. You just need to look or ask.
