Holidays Past
Recently, one of the bloggers I follow suggested sharing a holiday photo and related memories with family. Her idea reminded me of a holiday photo collage I created several years ago. I selected 17, old, family, Christmas photos and labeled each with a letter. I provided a list of the years from which the photos were taken and asked my family to make their best guess to match the photo to the year. I don’t recall anyone making a big effort to make the matches, but it was fun to stimulate a conversation about past Christmas holiday gatherings.
What a fun game!
The last photo I took of my father was at Christmas and also his two sisters. You never know when it is going to be the last one. At least I have the photos to remember people by.
I recently wrote about my mother’s eldest brother who died and received a surprise reply from someone who had read it . It was from someone I knew but I did not know that he was also interested in history.
Thanks for sharing your holiday photos.
Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays! Happy New Year!
I plan to continue the 52 Weeks Challenge in 2022!
What a great idea! I may borrow it for my siblings and me.
My husband’s grandmother Myrtle did a similar thing for a wedding shower game in the mid-1950’s for her daughter Billie. She collected about 20 bride-and-groom photos from elder generations up to her own wedding photo. They were only identified by number. The task of the shower guests was to put them in correct order by date. Some of the photos were of distant relatives and family friends. The earliest was from the late 1880’s. Aunt Billie kept the photos and carried on the tradition for her own daughter and granddaughter. Since Billie is the family historian in that family, she shared the photos with me. Actually I think the game may have even been played at Myrtle’s wedding shower in the early 1920s!
This is a great idea! Sadly, the rest of my family doesn’t seem too interested in the past 🙁
